A uniquely fresh take on Rock & Roll, Sea Mouse are an alternative blues rock trio from Wellington, New Zealand.
Formed in 2017 by Seamus Johnson (vocals, guitar) alongside Scott Maynard (bass), and Thomas Friggens (drums).
A sound transmogrifying between mammoth guitar driven garage rock tunes with hooks big enough to snag a whale to the Delta blues of the 1930s, these are three musicians all with spanning musical resumes and the ability to construct hard-hitting, well-hewn, rock anthems.
The self titled first album, released in August 2017 was recorded over the best part of 2 years while travelling and working as in construction between Waiheke Island and Wellington. Described more of a collection of songs lived with and performed for a long time, but never recorded, it moves between acoustic [American Western] ballads in tracks ‘Light Years’ and ‘Comfortable Silence’ and heavier up beat anthems like ‘Churches In The Trenches’ and ‘Lie to Me’.
January 2020s release ‘Tropical Fish’, is an 11 track delivery of power riffs and , with themes aiming middle fingers at the arbitrary and fragile systems we all conform to, and making a concerted effort to further disrupt the status quo.
