Semicircle

Changing Phase of Truth, Semicircle's third official release, shows the project's deepest pry into the paradoxes which have come to drive its music. Songwriter Andrew McFarland's lyrics are simultaneously at their most imagist and most abstract, most introspective and observational, most spiritual and mundane. The music itself moves seamlessly between McFarland's practiced intimacy, fuzzed out rock, and mysterious, modal compositions. Changing Phase of Truth marks an important departure in Semicircle's catalog. While both the eponymous EP and 2015's Blown Breeze, Grown Grass and We Are Part of the Earth were created slowly and privately with McFarland as a one man band, Changing Phase of Truth invited the band's live members to track most of the record live over the course of only a few days. Jack Blauvelt and Payton Collier, electric guitar and drums respectively, are band members of McFarland's in Atlanta's Neighbor Lady. Jake Thompson, keys, a stalwart of the Atlanta scene and Gabe Seibel, bass, completed the group to give Changing Phase of Truth a much different sonic flavor than Semicircle's previous releases.
