Seola Station is smoky folk rock - heavy on the rock. Their sound suggests a range of influences including The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, Fiona Apple, and The Tragically Hip, with vocals that invite comparisons to PJ Harvey and Patti Smith.
A dual-guitar groove drives Seola Station’s dynamic blend of contrasting elements that might take listeners back to the musically diverse Paisley Underground era of the early 1980s Los Angeles, when being influenced equally by both Lou Reed and Love seemed like a no-brainer, and to the emergence of the Pretenders, whose mix of brawn and tenderness was authentic and human.
Luminous and emotionally-charged, Seola Station’s songs have been described as poems with a rock heartbeat. Drawing from the folk rock tradition, their music is anchored in our shared human experience. Their songs are reflections — stories about identity, recurring mistakes, second chances, and the hero’s journey to see the world, and ourselves, clearly. They are love songs — about letting go, moving on, and becoming whole.
Formed in 2023 in Seattle, WA, with Ruth Haney (vocals) and her husband Brian Sykes (bass), with Matt Wetherholt (rhythm/lead guitar), and Brett "Pauly" Woodbury (rhythm/lead guitar). In Fall 2025, they began performing with a select lineup of session drummers, while looking for a permanent replacement for original drummer Chad Konsak. The band recorded an EP with Joe Reineke at Temple of the Trees Studio that was released in 2025.
