Serabee hails from Kiln, Mississippi, just a stone's throw from New Orleans. Raised by her preacher father, a guitar player, and her folk singer mother, she grew up in the church, juke joints, and tent revivals of Louisiana and Mississippi. Her piano style draws from legends like Ray Charles, Professor Longhair, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Dr. John, while her powerful vocals have been compared to Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Susan Tedeschi.
After an extensive career that began in her childhood playing in church and revival circuits, and later included major label deals and chart successes, Serabee returned home to rediscover her New Orleans sound. Signing with Rabadash Records, she teamed up with iconic drummer Russell Batiste Jr., and together they created the song “New Orleans.” This collaboration led to the formation of The Roots Revival Band, featuring Serabee (vocals, piano), Batiste (drums, vocals), Mark Levron (trumpet, vocals), and Jon Cristian Duque (guitar, vocals).
The band took residence at the Bourbon O Hotel in the French Quarter, where they began to define their unique sound. Tragically, in September 2023, Batiste passed away unexpectedly. In the wake of this loss, the band, though grief-stricken, decided to continue in his spirit. They were joined by Jamal Batiste on drums, and later Ezell “E.Z.” Smith, with Serabee now playing piano and bass on her keyboards. The band continue to forge ahead, playing with passion and preserving the soul of New Orleans music.
