Shak Shakito

Shak Shakito, taken from his real name Shamba Benoit Olela, was born in the small village of Lodja in the province of East Kasaï, which is situated in the center of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He was 14years old when he joined his sister in Kinshasa, the country capital, about 2000km from his hometown. In Kinshasa, he studied painting at the Institut de beaux arts, but, listening to his neighbor brightening up the nights with live guitar music, he was inspired to learn to play guitar to accompany the texts that he was writing. He finally exchanged his paintbrushes to formally study guitar and registered at institut National des Arts where he graduated in music in 2007. In 2008, at the cœur d'Afrique Festival in Kinshasa, he launched his professional music career with his artist name Shak Shakito. Since then, he has performed at popular music festivals both at home and abroad, including some of the largest performance venues in Kinshasa. A talented guitarist and composer, he has
participated in multidisciplinary projects for the Matshina Dance Festival and a theater festival
with the work Ça se passe à Kin. In 2013, he represented the DRC at FIMU in Belfort. In 2016, FIMU invited him to return to celebrate its 30th season.
As author, composer, singer and musician, he produced and released his first album Fausse
