Shamall features music which is currently a fusion of neo-progressive rock and electronic. The project was founded by the German DJ, musician and producer Norbert Krueler in 1986.
Before the music became neo-progressive rock, Shamall releases his debut single „My dream" in 1986 in the style of Italo disco. The 12“ single reached rank 9 in the German charts. His 2nd release "Feeling Like a Stranger" (1988) was almost as successful.
From 1989-1998 Shamall released 7 albums in an electronic experimental and psychedelic style, starting with "Journey to a Nightmare"
In 1999 Shamall produced his first neo progressive rock album "The Book: Genesis". It’s main theme „New Age Krautrock Symphony“ was awarded by the German radioshow “Schwingungen” as “best song of the year 2001”.
From that time Shamall released a new album of this kind almost every year. Meanwhile the German guitarist Matthias Mehrtens was an integral part of the band. In 2010 Norbert met the singer Anke Ullrich, who has also been a member since then.
The jury of the american „Just Plain Folks Music Organization - JPF" nominated Shamall in 2006 with the album „Ambiguous points of view“ as best progressive-rock album of the year – and in 2017 again – the album “Turn Off” and 2 titles are finalists in the categories “best alternative album”, “best alternative song” and “best modern rock/pop song”.
Shamall composed many titles for the TV over the years and is well known as one of the longest working Rock-DJs to date.
