Hailing from Hanoi and comprised of a trio of foreigners, Shibui are Vietnam's very own Goblin-Punk pioneers. Formed in 2018, Shibui combines hard hitting punk and metal riffs with melodic sensibilities, shaped by the influences of members Jack (Guitar & Vocals, EN), Chaz (Bass & Vocals, EN) and Ian (Drums, JPN).
In the years since forming, Shibui have brought the goblin sound to many venues in Vietnam, including playing all night forest festivals, historical cities and iconic venues such as Hanoi Rock City in the country's capital - and the band's home base. They have supported Vietnamese thrash powerhouse Cut Lon on tour, U.S melodic hardcore band Of Virtue, Argentinian punk legends the Argies and a raft of other well respected artists in the small but emerging Vietnamese punk rock scene.
Kijin is the band's first full length release and is a reflection of life and experience in Hanoi; it is 13 songs crafted over 3 years, making up a record that almost never saw the light of day due to the loss of the album master files. After the pandemic shut down the band's seemingly unstoppable progress, the sight was set on finally putting out the collection of songs that represents the band's legacy; a lairy, original and artistic stamp on a burgeoning scene, in a far-away land at odds with the culture that shaped it's members.
