Gerpis “Shino” Correa, was the lead singer of the band “Aguakate”, and a radio host in the city of New York. He is also known as “Aguakate”, a nickname given to him because of the band. Gelpis “Shino” Correa, now he has his own band known as “Shino Aguakate.” A very talented young man, he composed his own music and lyrics. His charisma together with his unique sense of humor transcendent to the public every time he is on stage. A very humanitarian, and humble person.
He life story as a “merenguero” started at a very young age, back in his country (Dominican Republic). He played merengue orchestra with his friends using rubbish, cans, and bottles as instruments. He migrated to New York in his early twenties where he pursues a career in communication which lead to forming the band and later a radio host. He has a strong motivation why he became a merenguero, his own words, and I quote, “El vivir lejos de mi patria me motiva a seguir mis raices, y a perseguir un sueṅo que yo traia desde niṅo, una forma de mostrarle al mundo de donde vengo y que represento”. Meaning, living far from my homeland motivated a lot in me, to follow my roots and to pursue a dream from my childhood. Is my way to show the world where I come from and what I represent.
