Sho's take on the gangsta rap genre differs from carbon copy imitations in that he refuses to ignore the consequences of his characters' actions or to descend into macho exaggeration. His career began when he met former <a href="spotify:artist:3f5fB1YUbkUnW7cf7I0R48">Geto Boy</a> Willie D. through a cousin. D. admired the intelligent social conscience apparent in Sho's lyrics, and a year later, Sho became the first artist signed to D.'s new Wize Up label.
