“When these guys play a show, they don’t just play, they throw down.” Corey Wogalter, yourculturevulture.com
Shoebox Money is an indie rock group from Lawrence, Kansas that toes the line between blues revivalists and garage rockers with a few other spheres of influences mixed in for good measure. First finding their sound in 2017, the young group consisting of Ben Schenberg, Ben Wellwood, Patrick Spanier, and Dylan McCune is known for their high energy shows, hooky guitar work, and howling vocals. After a year of heavy gigging both locally and regionally that culminated in them winning the 24th annual Farmer's Ball, the group partnered with Matt Richards at Avenue Record Company to record their debut album, "Reason and Rhyme".
Reason and Rhyme is an eclectic reflection of the hectic year that lead to its creation. The album bends genres jumping from contemporary blues to alt rock to funk jazz and back, sometimes all within the same song. Beneath the mostly upbeat songs, Ben Schenberg's lyrics carefully articulate feelings of frustration, heartbreak, longing, anxiety, and occasionally joy.
FFO: The Black Keys, Patrick Sweany, The Glorious Sons, Houndmouth, The Yawpers, and Black Pistol Fire
