The math-hardcore outfit, <a href="spotify:artist:5gNojKZVDZxYYODoftq4YD" data-name="Shogun">Shogun</a> originated in 1998 in Boulder, Colorado. Known for odd-time evolving riff-driven song structures melded with resolute melody, the five-piece echoed elements of metal-hardcore progressives like <a href="spotify:artist:7kHzfxMLtVHHb523s43rY1" data-name="Converge">Converge</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2T8rmKa2k1uot2okGULagY" data-name="Coalesce">Coalesce</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5m2NwwPj4pzGQC0PQwMBWi" data-name="Cave In">Cave In</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4kRYDoAbgDL7nqeqZhJlA3" data-name="Botch">Botch</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7IGcjaMGAtsvKBLQX26W4i" data-name="The Dillinger Escape Plan">The Dillinger Escape Plan</a>.
Shogun’s initial line-up featured Trevor Graham (lead vocals), David Heinrich (guitar), Jesse Johnson (guitar, vocals), Charles Levingston (drums, vocals), and Joe Nepomuceno (bass).
