Shooting Spires

Last updated: 4 days ago

Shooting Spires is the one-man band solo project of multi-instrumentalist B.J. Warshaw, who by day plays bass and keyboards with the experimental indie rockers Parts & Labor. The Brooklyn-based Warshaw wrote and recorded the Shooting Spires album in two busy months between Parts & Labor tours in early 2008, its twisty and largely electronic take on indie rock showing the avowed influence of Brian Eno's 1973 art rock masterpiece Here Come the Warm Jets, which Warshaw has regularly cited as his favorite album. Shooting Spires was released in the fall of 2007 on Cardboard Records, a label co-owned by Warshaw and his Parts & Labor bandmates. After the album's release, Warshaw formed a full-band lineup of Shooting Spires, singing and playing keyboards himself and with the other three bandmembers consisting of Mat Lynch on guitar, Emily Varlas on bass, and Jeff Ottenbacher on drums. A spring 2008 tour was organized around the group's appearance at Austin's SXSW festival. ~ Stewart Mason, Rovi
