Short Skirts is a Norwegian garage rock band hailing from Trondheim. Formed in 2013, by Per Ellekjær Kjesbu, Håvard Kiberg, Espen Ruttenborg Svendsen, Vegar Husby Fiskum, and Lars Kiberg, the band experienced immediate success with their debut single "Kids," which garnered attention from the Norwegian broadcaster NRK and received extensive airplay on Norwegian radio.
Following tours across Norway, their debut album "Family Values" was released in 2015 to critical acclaim from both Norwegian and international press. The album was among other things described as "a delightful fusion of old and new, reminiscent of a genre playfulness not seen in Norwegian music since the punk and eighties rock era birthed a child named Turbonegro."
In 2018, the band released their follow-up album "Flower Junkies." Through singles like "Sam's Shooting" and "Blue Eyed Baby," the band showcased the breadth of their musical expression, with the latter single becoming a widely-played summer hit.
After "Flower Junkies," Short Skirts took a hiatus from the Norwegian rock scene. Vocalist Espen Svendsen departed from the band in 2023 and was replaced by Per Ellekjær Kjesbu, who now serves as both vocalist and guitarist.
Stylistically, Short Skirts blend elements of punk rock, surf rock, scandi rock, and garage rock, often citing bands such as Iggy and the Stooges, Ramones, Turbonegro, Richard Hell, and Dead Boys as influences. The band is known for their energetic and fearless live performances.
