Shovon Ashraf enjoys traveling across different parts of Bangladesh and is a lifelong book lover — you never know when you might meet him by chance at an old bookstore or somewhere unexpected in the country.
A versatile Bangladeshi musician active since 2015, Shovon is best known as a drummer but also works as a songwriter and composer. He has contributed guitar and piano on select studio recordings to add intimate layers to the sound.
His artistic expression goes beyond rhythm. Shovon is the recitation vocalist for the conceptual project The Diary After Evening, with four singles blending introspective narratives and ambient soundscapes.
As drummer of Golpo and Metrolife, Shovon is at the heart of two emotionally resonant alternative bands. With Golpo, he has released seven singles and is working on new material for their upcoming full-length album. With Metrolife, he has released a full-length album and a new single from their forthcoming project.
A sought-after collaborator, Shovon played acoustic guitar and drums on Blue Touch’s “Mayabee” and “Durasha”, and was guest drummer on Chander Gari’s “Somadhan” and “Nijer Naame Daki”.
As a lyricist, he has penned some of the scene’s most emotionally charged songs, including “Uposhonghar,” “Onidrita,” “Boyosh,” and “Shesh Kimbā Shurur Golpo” for Golpo, as well as “Bornil Halogen” (Chondropith), and “Purono” and “Shesh Rater Golpo” (Blue Jeans Band). His lyrics are praised for their poetic depth and honesty.
