“A house is not a home unless it’s full of dirty rascals!”
“I wish I was a cowboy, but I’m just a man with a guitar.”
The essence of Shroomdog & the Dirty Rascals lies somewhere between these two quotes, taken from their forthcoming album Too Far West. Bouncing between the extremes of jubilation and destitution, the band combines folky odes to debauchery, country ballads on love and loss, and contemporary singer-songwriter introspection to make music that’s hard to pigeonhole. Part campfire singalong, part quiet meditation on the volatility of identity, the Dirty Rascals’ sound – like their wannabe cowboy protagonist – isn’t quite sure what it wants to be.
Shroomdog & the Dirty Rascals is the project of multi-instrumentalists Kai Gibson and Alexander Moravcsik, guitarist and singer-songwriter Niccolo Bechtler, and producer and multi-instrumentalist Leo LaPlaca.
