"Fusion of Colours" (June 21, 2025) is the first album to belong to the MFDM genre.
Multi-Faceted DIY Music (MFDM) is an emerging music genre and creative philosophy coined by Sydney-based independent artist Shu Lee in 2025. It is characterised by polygenre hybridity, a series of multilingual songs across an album and a creative DIY autonomy across all aspects of music production.
This album encompasses Middle Eastern rhythm and flair featuring social media as a topic of discussion, Baroque-influenced harpsichord with opera singing, Western classical string arrangements, Chinese opera singing, Slavic accordion with brass ensemble accompaniment, US grunge grit with a sprinkling of spiritual historiographical symbolism, Nashville-esque pop rock, British Alternative Art Rock, Darkwave EDM with a Hindi hook, Mambo percussion to the tune of Malaysian culture, Oz-themed symbolism reflecting the status quo situationship of economic inflation, ancient East Asian philosophy sung to a romantic contemporary vibe and Trap Rap highlighting experiential health issues and an unprecedented Dharug-Chinese song paying homage to the language of the land.
It embarks on the groundbreaking vision to transform the present musical landscape by incorporating a variety of languages into its mix:
English, Serbo-Croatian, Arabic, Hindi, Malay, Dharug, Mandarin Chinese, Tamil and Spanish. This stemming from my personal experiences in culture, work and life.
Thank you for your love and support.
