Two voices, a wurlitzer keyboard, and a piano noodling in the next room. This was the roadmap for the standards album More Than You Know by singer Silva Þórðardóttir and singer/keyboardist Steingrímur Teague.
The result is sparse and introverted, with few solos to speak of, and to say that the music “swings” would be a stretch. Instead, the goal was to sound at once familiar and strange – like a vague memory of a long-lost jazz album.
Silva Þórðardóttir has performed with many of Iceland’s best known jazz musicians. Her debut album Skylark came out in 2019. Steingrímur Teague has performed and recorded with countless Icelandic musicians across most genres, both as singer and keyboardist.
