Silver Chamber — the intersection of progressive metal and classical music
“ANIMUS marks the inception of Silver Chamber, which I first wrote as an experiment in using the orchestra as the ‘voice’ of the song. I’m a lifelong metal fan and have always been fascinated by the world of classical music, but this piece was born out of my admiration for electronic artists: their lack of inhibition and courage to play hard and fast with the rules of genre. From this space of play, ANIMUS ended up defining the blueprint from which the live orchestra would later be designed.”

Created by composer/guitarist/producer Stephen J Brown, it describes a signature sound that fuses the incendiary energy of metal with the finesse of classical musicianship. With an expansive range of influences, from Trivium to Stravinsky, this unique mode of music creation subverts the concept of genre by weaving diverse styles and instrumentation into a singular soundscape.
This sound is delivered live through a hybrid metal band and chamber orchestra, performing sophisticated, technical guitarwork elevated by cinematic strings, piano, and orchestral harp — a live repertoire capable of crushing heaviness as much as delicate beauty.
Fusing inventive guitarwork influenced by Spiritbox and ERRA with a cinematic score inspired by composers like Hans Zimmer, ANIMUS takes the centuries-old tradition of composition and reinvents it for the cutting-edge of modern metal.
