Simon Haw MBE

Simon is a composer at heart. In 2017, he wrote Passchendaele, which was used by the BBC for its live broadcast of the 100th anniversary of the event. The BBC production team received a BAFTA award in 2018 for their use of the composition. Simon was also commissioned to write Earth Dance, a major work for choir and orchestra that was performed at the Biennial Meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London in April 2018. In the same month, his Trumpet Call premiered in London.

Simon's focus in the latter half of 2018 was on composing Cenotaph Requiem, a large-scale work that commemorates the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. The piece combines elements of the Latin Mass with instrumental movements that portray a chronological narrative of the war. Regina, a composition to mark the 95th anniversary of the Queen's birthday, and Green Canopy, a twelve-movement work for solo violin and orchestra, are among his latest works.

Simon's contributions to music and the arts have not gone unnoticed. In 2011, he was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE). In 2022, he was awarded a BAFTA for his compositions on the BBC production of the RBL Festival of Remembrance.
