Simon Westman is a Swedish pianist and composer. He started to take piano lessons at the age of eleven, and was first classically trained. Debussy quickly became a favorite, during this period. After some years, Simon began playing jazz and was later educated at the college of music in Gothenburg. After graduating in Gothenburg, Simon studied another year at the College of music in Cologne, Germany, where he had the privilege to have the British jazz pianist John Taylor as a teacher. Still, Simon is very influenced by Taylor, both in piano playing and in composition.
Simon runs his own piano trio Simon Westman Trio, who released their debut album ”Stay a While” in 2020. Besides the trio, Simon plays and performs regularly with several jazz groups and Swedish pop artists. He has toured in countries such as Japan, Germany and Italy and performed at stages such as Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.
