Sister Ghost is the spooktacular, self-made world of Irish musician Shannon Delores O’Neill—a rare artist redefining what DIY means in rock today. Having played in bands since the age of 12, O’Neill launched Sister Ghost, writing and recording everything herself on an old 8-track recorder. The result: a spectral, anthemic fusion of art-rock and gothic-pop, pulling influence from the Seattle sound, Sonic Youth, Patti Smith, and Kate Bush—music that’s both intelligent and visceral.
Over the years, Sister Ghost has become one of Ireland’s most vital rock voices, winning Best Live Act at the NI Music Prize and sharing stages with Snow Patrol, Fontaines DC, We Are Scientists, Pussy Riot, and more. She’s also a powerful force for change, founding Girls Rock! NI in 2016 to mentor female and gender-expansive musicians.
Critically praised by The Guardian and played on KEXP, BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, and RTÉ 2FM, Sister Ghost's debut album, Beyond The Water, marks the arrival of an artist who’s been quietly building something bold. Recorded in LA with producer Brad Wood (Liz Phair, Veruca Salt) and drummer Jeff Friedl (A Perfect Circle, DEVO), it signals a fearless new chapter of songwriting and storytelling.
“Loud and unapologetic blasts of feminist empowerment” – Louder Magazine
“Absolutely glorious power pop with a goth tinge – absolutely fantastic” – Julie Weir, Music For Nations
“Absolutely massive!” – Jack Saunders, BBC Radio 1
