Hailing from the suburbs of Suwanee by way of PG County, Maryland, SkipTwn is a breath of fresh air in the Pop genre. His sound is a mixture of influences across all genres. He gives soulful vibes with his lyrics about late night drives, missing your ex, and overthinking cascading over airy synths, distant guitars, and subtle drums.

With a self-described “old school” upbringing, Skip’s main influences are old soul artists like Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, and Luther Vandross. “I didn’t discover current music until I was like 13. We just weren’t allowed to listen to any of it. I was in middle school and people were asking if I heard some new rap song and I’d still be listening to old Sam Cooke sh*t from the 60s” Eventually in high school he discovered more main stream current artists, “I liked the new possibilities of music but missed the old true lyricism. It felt like musically everything progressed but the actual song writing process disintegrated down to just finding some words that rhymed instead of a story to tell.” So when he started making music, he sought to create the blend that eventually became his trademark sound. A blend of simple modern production and old school storytelling lyricism.
