Skoff is the producer alias of Sam Koff, a composer and trumpeter from Richmond, VA, known for weaving cinematic textures, chopped live instrumentation, and rich brass melodies into experimental hip-hop and jazz-influenced beat tapes. Drawing from years as a live musician with No BS! Brass and others, Skoff’s beats often begin with original recordings—piano, horns, woodwinds—flipped through samplers like the SP-404 to create layered, melodic worlds that nod to anime soundtracks, spiritual jazz, and boom bap.
His debut tape Tanook33 Era Transmissions features a rotating cast of collaborators from Richmond’s genre-blurring scene. Among various projects, he’s also contributed production to acclaimed albums by McKinley Dixon, including Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!? and Magic, Alive!, helping shape their textured, emotionally resonant sound.
