Metal/synth/pop from Minneapolis!
Sky Island is the result of years of jamming between longtime friends Niilo Smith (Vocals, Guitar, Synth) and Ben Fagerness (Drums). Both members come from the local metal scene, albeit slightly different ends of the metal spectrum. Niilo, having previously released original music eponymously, has traditionally gravitated towards the more melodic and pop end of the metal spectrum. Meanwhile Ben, who currently plays in Minneapolis death metal stalwarts Graveslave, as well as Gloryhole Guillotine and Hurter, is mostly known for his contributions in the extreme metal realm. The goal of Sky Island is to take our love of metal, and combine it with pop and synth elements, to create a palatable, yet heavy sound. With a constant stream of new music planned, combined with engaging videos/content, Sky Island has big plans for the future.
