Sleepers' Reign is a project that strikes a balance between dreamt up electronic soundscapes and real performances. The group was founded in 2010, when Lukas Hermans, Orson Wouters and Ruben Mertens joined forces, recording songs in their bedroom studio in Herentals, Belgium.
In 2016, Sleepers' Reign released their debut album 'King Into Delight' with additional production by Justin Gerrish (Vampire Weekend), along with an interactive mobile app. At the start of 2018, after a few years of promoting the album as well as balancing education and studio time, Hermans, Mertens and Wouters returned to a reclusive lifestyle in order to focus on writing, pushing themselves to extend their repertoire beyond 100 songs before releasing new music.
Sophomore project ‘AKUMA', released May 19th, 2023, signifies a return to the limelight for Sleepers’ Reign and a commitment to releasing music on a regular basis again. What used to be bedroom recording has now evolved into taking care of the full production pipeline at Son d’Or Studio (Ghent). In order to obtain a new sound, the band started decomposing their creative workflow, which led to a more introspective approach, resulting in an album centered around feelings of exile, insecurities and ultimately accepting one's own reality. The songs distilled from the exhaustive writing sessions make for a visceral album with an autonomous feel and strong visual overtones.
