Initially finding inspiration in both the soundscape and ethos of Stoner/Doom metal,
Sleeping Giant is a melting pot of tight drumming accentuated with a whole lot of
grooves, powerful yet brutal vocal performances as well as punctual but catchy riffs.
While it might be hard to categorize this unclear concoction of Stoner, Doom, Thrash,
Death and Sludge Metal, the result speaks for itself, a well oiled tour-de-force feast of the
finest Metal has to offer.
Since their first performance right in the middle of Iceland‘s financial collapse early in
2009, Sleeping Giant drew a slight cult following for aforementioned traits before,
ironically, living up to their name in 2012 when the band became a dormant entity. It
would turn out to be a good decade of slumber but the band would reform to play at
Reykjadoom and Norðanpaunk festivals in 2024, as well as finally entering the studio
and the bands‘ first ever official release is in the final stages of tinkery before seeing the
light of day.
Sleeping Giant is a six-piece band and it‘s members are Oddur Freyr Þorsteinsson (vocals),
Finnbogi Jökull Pétursson (guitars, backing vocals), Árni Björn Björnsson and Guðmundur
Hrannar Eiríksson (guitars), Einar Darri Einarsson (bass) and Ásmundur Jóhannsson
(drums).
