Sleepwalker Funeral was established in October 2018 at a psych ward in Los Angeles. A cacophony of mental health issues finally peaked leading to a mental breakdown which culminated in the birth of SwF as a ‘coping mechanism’ by musician & producer, Christian Winter.
A duality of noise and harmony collide to breed an onslaught of heinous ghouls that haunt skulls from within the eyes. Booming bass, delicate melodies and harshly distorted instruments forge a horde of fiends whose red eyes leer down from the ceiling at night.
Topics such as mental illness and the macabre are tackled from an intimate and personal perspective. Inspired by the innocence of nostalgic memories that have been marred by the mental trauma of exile, torment and shame.
The vocals are reminiscent of someone being accidentally buried alive in a coffin screaming for help, only to realize that they would face a public beheading for heresy if exhumed from the grave because the year is 1666.
Dark, shadowy no-budget music videos accompany nearly every song. These are heavily inspired by the ethereal and blurry photography of Francesca Woodman, the distorted and morbid aesthetic of the horror film Begotten (1989), and the rapid-cutting editing style of filmmaker Stan Brakhage.
