<a href="spotify:artist:06OyyrQY1shsatleOrXyqP" data-name="SMIR">SMIR</a> is a rapper from a city near Toronto who discovered his passion for music while in university during the 2019-2020 school year. His journey began with freestyling alongside <a href="spotify:artist:725Ih6e1tSG41usPys94ET" data-name="J Kief">J Kief</a> and frequenting <a href="spotify:artist:5XpP5rw9h13RaxxbpI1fdw" data-name="&#39;Tama Brown">&#39;Tama Brown</a>’s home studio. After a few months of lockdown, SMIR recorded his first track, she gotta wait (freestyle) on a 2013 MacBook Pro using a Blue Snowball microphone. The track was released in January 2021, a few months after <a href="spotify:album:1YVfSHBz6vqz7LzocfVz28" data-name="WORK">WORK</a> .

During this time, SMIR immersed himself in the sounds of <a href="spotify:artist:1ybINI1qPiFbwDXamRtwxD" data-name="Smino">Smino</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7Hjbimq43OgxaBRpFXic4x" data-name="Saba">Saba</a>—two of his favorite artists—before discovering <a href="spotify:artist:2SJhf6rTOU53g8yBdAjPby" data-name="SoFaygo">SoFaygo</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:3U1jsFYwwJHv7VB4Frf3F4" data-name="TyFontaine">TyFontaine</a>. About six months later, he dropped <a href="spotify:track:4TalscIGtNwW8G79OuPjWH" data-name="MYSELF">MYSELF</a>, a two-song EP that marked his introduction to autotune. Tracks like <a href="spotify:album:2gDePnUkyM9Conz4WnPGMK" data-name="Mop &#39;n Stick">Mop &#39;n Stick</a> and she gotta wait (freestyle), were engineered by Garth Tim, with <a href="spotify:track:3cigInaYCY4p89rN0WnbRc" data-name="XXXATCH">XXXATCH</a> being SMIR&#39;s first self-mixed song.

In October 2021, after over a year of recording music on his MacBook, SMIR upgraded to a PC and began using FL Studio, teaching himself to mix and master his tracks. He also upgraded his equipment, including a Shure SM7B microphone, to refine his sound further. Over the next few years, he released several singles, EP’s, albums, and scrapped many unfinished projects, all while honing his craft.

In February 2025, SMIR released Nights Like These, a 12-track album blending emotional tracks with hard-hitting trap beats, offering a deeper side of his artistry.

With every release, SMIR pushes the limits of his sound, and there&#39;s more to come. Stay tuned.
