Described by The Wire as embodying a "southern gothic swampland voodoo," SNEERS. are a female-fronted music project led by Italian singer and guitarist M.G. Blaankart, alongside drummer Leonardo O. Stefenelli. Originally formed in Berlin and later relocating to Rome, SNEERS.' music is a devilish, hallucinatory journey into the depths of human despair, all brought to life by the raw, emotional intensity of Blaankart’s lyrics.
Their work, marked by blood-soaked poetry and luminous melancholia, serves as an ode to spirituality and guilt.
This exploration of heaven and hell reached a pinnacle in their 2018 studio album, “Heaven Will
Rescue Us, We're the Scum, We're in the Sun”, which featured the collaboration of Kristof Hahn from
Swans on lap steel guitar and was released by God Unknown Records.
Since the album's release, SNEERS. have extensively toured across Europe and the UK.
Revista Marvin even compared Blaankart’s voice to the living legend Diamanda Galás.
With the release of “Tales For Violent Days”, produced by Freddie from Father Murphy and mixed by
award-winning sound engineer Francesco Donadello, the band continued their extensive European tours.
In 2024, they returned to the studio with legendary American producer Randall Dunn (known for his work with Sunn O))), Zola Jesus, Anna Von Hausswolff) to record their most ambitious project to date, “Then Find Peace” featuring Xiu Xiu on vocals. The album is set for release in Spring 2025 via God Unknown Records.
