Snow Black is ambient guitarist Stefan Nowak from London, UK, currently living in the middle of an olive grove in the mountains east of Pisa, Italy. Originally inspired by the music of Robert Fripp & Brian Eno on the album No Pussyfooting, and subsequent Frippertronics and Soundscapes recordings by Robert Fripp, he uses his guitar with a multitude of fx to create lush sound textures with a strong sense of melody. As well as using various Roland and Boss guitar synthesisers, and Variax guitars, he also records directly into an iPad Pro or MacBook Pro using many different apps and plug-ins to create his soundscapes. He is also partial to using an eBow or Fernandes sustainer to create long sustained notes.
Most of his tracks are improvised and recorded live with no overdubs and little editing. Most of the time this approach seems to work, often much to his own surprise!
