Who is Some Rose? that’s a tricky question. In one sense it’s very easy: Some Rose is the musical duo of writer/vocalist Joey Schutz aka <a href="spotify:artist:2pzuqXAjfW5lQ5imYKEhMX" data-name="Austin Barrows">Austin Barrows</a> , with writer/producer Kylie Minarik. Formed in 2022, the Minneapolis duo initially tinkered with songs back and forth, stemming from each of their musical interests. Joey headbangs to the bombastic and melancholy tunes of bands like The Wonder Years and Deftones while Kylie runs wild for the glitchy and frantic nature of artists such as blackwinterwells and underscores. Their varied musical perspectives converged into the creation of genre-fusing tracks that don’t fit nicely into the typical sub genres.
In that sense it becomes quite hard… Who is Some Rose? Their songs are “too much” to be easy to listen to, but “too simple” to be underground. Their songs are “too crazy” to get your head nodding, yet “too melodic” to get the mosh pit moving. In a way this IS who they are. They aren’t interested in fitting into proper molds or trends, they’re here to make the music they love to make. They aren’t interested in following anyone’s footsteps… even their own. Some Rose is the pursuit for the fun in creating music
