“New Ears”, the first Son Step track to surface since their 2019 full length Fossilillies, is the most current snapshot of the group’s artfully twisted and shape-shifting sound. Recorded in various locations and finished against the backdrop of the sea change that was 2020, the song is a soft and moody foray into inner spaces decorated with thick bass tones, synthetic cycles and fluidly snapping percussion. It also marks the band’s first time working with Cincinnati based drummer and avid experimenter Ben Sloan (WHY?, Naytronix, The National), and this same formation of the group will see the release of more music later this year.
