Sondergrin is a power-trio rock band based currently in Guatemala City. Its sound can be described as the result of grabbing 90’s pop-punk and 00’s alternative rock bands and microwaving them during an electrical storm. So, pretty edgy.
Originally known as Chronic Weather, the band started with Charlie and Ed back in 2013. They were a couple of guys, with a couple of ideas and a couple of acoustic guitars. A bunch of guys joined the band during those years, that bunch of guys eventually left as well. In 2015, Sondergrin was born when Sammy joined in the drums and Ed changed the guitar for a bass.
Now a musical ménage à trois, Sondergrin spent 2016 and 2017 making its debut album. Recorded two and a half times due to growing pains and “technical difficulties”, caused by being part of a struggling local music scene where the focus lies on the past and the future is won by hitting heads against walls. As the misfits of the local circuit (not because of unrecognized virtuosity, but just out of plain awkwardness), the band´s lyrics and music resonate with itself, discovering its identity between traditional social structures, freedom and daily life.
Road View, the band’s debut album is a showcase of the journey that the trio has gone through, both musical and personal. Early impressions have been pretty favorable, with one of the band member’s mom actually calling it “pretty good”. Sondergrin is currently promoting the album and working on the follow-up.<br>
