“Sometimes I feel I am sitting next to the ghosts of people still living” is how Sonia Maral, an LA-based bassist, vocalist, and producer, evokes the vertiginous feeling of time passing you by.
Maral's debut EP Trepanation is a jewel-box collection of intricate songs exploring the boundaries between the body, the mind, and the world at large.
Poetic and lyrical, the EP is a summation of Sonia’s university studies as a music production major. Lush vocal layers deftly woven together with indie-rock instrumentation create the expansive soundscape of the record’s four tracks.
About the record, Sonia says: “Trepanation is about revealing the desperate human need to connect and be part of something outside of yourself, even when swimming in anxieties large and small.”
