For SOPHE music has always been her sanctuary. Growing up in vibrant Berlin in a musician and artist family finding her own output in the musical language was an obvious choice for her but at the same time a difficult journey.
Coming from singing Jazz, playing gigs, always being surrounded by this profession her debut EP "RESTORE" is part of her liberation as a versatile artist.
It's a pristine mix of melancholy balladry, choral dreamscapes, jazz-inflected modulations and locked-in grooves. A pandemic-induced stillness resulted in the summoning of a flowing creativity, through which each and every tune appeared to her amongst the loneliness of this crisis.
Across all tracks, SOPHE displays both calculated restraint and cinematic swells, the listener hanging by a thread as she slowly unveils her stories of life, love, loneliness and the struggle and beauty of our world. Through the juxtaposition of intricate vocal layering (New Year) with a heart-wrenching love letter spoken through song ( Staple The Highest) one gets the impression that SOPHE’s wordless vocals are just as important as the lyrics themselves.
RESTORE is the earnest, evocative music of a woman’s healing process; a refreshing listen that makes us feel better, ourselves, while announcing the radiant dawn of who SOPHE is and can be.
