Dr. Sophie Webber is an internationally accomplished soloist, chamber musician, arranger/composer, and educator. A former DM student of Janos Starker and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, she previously studied with Richard Markson at Trinity College of Music, London, graduating with a First Class Honors degree, as well as the Sir John Barbirolli memorial prize for cello. She was also a Music Theory Instructor at Indiana University for four years.
Sophie has released two critically acclaimed albums, “Escape: Bach’s Six Suites for Solo Cello” (2018), and “B2C: Bach to Choir” (2020, chosen by Los Angeles’ KUSC 91.5FM as a favorite albums of the year). This segue album was recorded with members of Chicago’s Choir of Ascension and features Bach’s Cello Suites Nos.1 and 3 alongside Sophie’s original choral arrangement. Both albums are being aired across the USA. This fall 2022. she will release her third album, "Roots," recorded with esteemed pianist Ines Irawati.
In 2009, she founded Fused Muse Ensemble (www.fusedmuseensemble.com), an IL npo with a mission to amplify voices too often left unheard through music and mixed media.
