SoulJahm emerged in Budapest 2011 after David William and his partner Kate Threadgould had left behind their old life in Edinburgh and began travelling Europe. Prior to this, David had released his debut solo album 'One Way Ticket' in 2006. Starting out in Barcelona, in October 2010, with only backpacks and some clothes and a laptop they set off on adventure. For several months they travelled, often through trials and tribulations, and then in early 2011 Music came into the picture. All they could manage to carry was a ukulele and melodica so the very earliest SoulJahm tracks only feature those instruments. David wrote new songs on the melodica, influenced by the life they were living - "Karl-Marx-Allee" was the Berlin boulevard they walked along during the winter of 2010/11, "Giudecca" was inspired by a stay on the island of Giudecca, Venice. Later that year they stayed in an apartment with a piano and used it as the basis for demos of these new songs. Circumstances beyond their control led to these recordings being made public and as they travelled over the next few years they continued to release new recordings. SoulJahm was never intended to be a traditional band, more of a movement, and they'd hoped to join with like-minded people and grow and make Music together. Sadly, this never happened and Kate died in 2014 before they could realise the vision. David tried to carry on SoulJahm with others but it wasn't to be and so he returned to life as a solo artist.
