Soumitra has completed her schooling from St. Mary's Convent, Guwahati & her secondary from Cotton College, Guwahati. She further pursued her academics from Maitreyi college, Delhi University as a sociology (hons) Graduate and have done her Masters in Music from Gandharva.
She has started to learn music from an early age of 3 and from the age of 5 her formal training started, she has learnt Indian classical music (vocal ) under the tutelage of eminent gurus - Debojit Roy (Guwahati), Pt.Jagdish Mohan (Delhi), Dr Ashwini Bhide (Mumbai), smt Kaushiki Chakraborty (Kolkata), Mr.Jayteerth Mevundi (Mumbai). She is presently under the guidance of Mr.Sanjay Vidyarthi (Dean with T-series). She has also received formal training in Semi classical singing ( Ghazal, Thumri, Bhajan) under the tutelage of Ustad Mohan Khan (Mumbai).An All india Radio Artist and a scholarship holder with "Human Resource Development, ministry of tourism,New Delhi".She has also been a scholarship holder with an NGO named "Satya Sai" New delhi.
A distinction holder in Indian classical Music under Lucknow and Allahabad University. She has been recently felicitated by the Vice President of India Mr. Venkiah Naidu for her outstanding contribution in the field of Indian classical Music (Delhi).
