SoyJoy was Juniper Lee (they/them)'s singer-songwriter project from 2019 to 2023.
In 2019, SoyJoy started off as a moniker under which they released demos for their friends and community on bandcamp.
Towards the end of 2021, they started playing shows and this became a way to connect with friends and build a scene for QTBIPOC musicians and anti-colonial anarchists in "vancouver, bc", unceded Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh land. They had friends Ava Yunus from "boymoder," Corvin Mack from "No. 1 Special", Kílila Raine, XO del Rosario and Alia Rusu Tahir join the project during many of their live performances, giving SoyJoy a fuller, friend-shaped sound. They finally created a more polished album called, "not in service", released in June 2023 featuring their bandmates. They toured the Pacific Northwest, played regularly at 648 Kingsway, made it to CiTR's Shindig finals in December 2022, performed at Enby Party and Vines Art Festival.
Juniper is of mixed Korean and European descent. They are now releasing music under the name "June Hawthorn".
