The world is a different place from late 2018, when Adam Morrow and producer/engineer Jamie Sego hatched plans for what would become Speckled Bird. Morrow, whose resume includes years playing guitar with <a href="spotify:artist:1yDI9pWnlrJmi9kZn3gkCb" data-name="John Paul White">John Paul White</a>, time as a member of bands like <a href="spotify:artist:43iDWCN5om0tDMAVplGTaV" data-name="Belle Adair">Belle Adair</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:1aR5iXXCpfA3w0XwHmvd72" data-name="Della Ray">Della Ray</a>, tours wielding guitar with Southern legends <a href="spotify:artist:1oTNCl6SRphYGb9NQ0toVE" data-name="Lee Bains + The Glory Fires">Lee Bains + The Glory Fires</a>, and countless session contributions, has turned his eyes closer to home. “I missed writing and singing my own music.”
Alongside Morrow and Sego, a rotating cast of musicians have brought the Bird to life. Following the release of their eponymous debut EP in July 2020 via Single Lock Records, the group coalesced to feature drummer Drew Kellough, keyboardist Austin Motlow, & bassist Spencer Duncan. “Most of the band are engineers. One of the dangers of living in the Shoals. We’ve got a mountain of music.
“I’ve been doing this for a decade. Touring, making records, trying to figure it out. There’s a lot of beautiful experiences out on the limb. Watching the edges of America go by through a van window, climbing into its heart. The good and the bad. I think we’ve tried to make music that’s exciting and fresh to us, and can live comfortably in that disjointed world. Because I don’t think we’re the only ones feeling that way.”
