Founded in 2005 by Martin Charlebois, Speech Machine is alt-rock/ indie-pop/ stoner rock music project. Martin takes the reigns by singing, playing guitar and bass, and performing most of the percussion found on this latest release. Other instrumentation includes: Keyboards, Drums, Cello, Horns, Sax, Banjo, Bassoon, Clarinet and many others. SPEECH MACHINE 5 features Ellen Kilcup on Cello, Jonathan Obien on Keyboards, and Christopher Briden on Viola da Gamba. This album is the first Speech Machine release to boast a pure acoustic theme, without a formal drum accompaniment. The debut album, Curious Punishments of Bygone Days, was released in 2006. The album is defined by acoustic guitar, soft melodies, and dark key changes. Dave Segal, from Seattle newspaper The Stranger, described it best by writing, “Curious Punishments of Bygone Days abounds with soft midnight blue atmospheres.” Speech Machine’s second album, Speech Machine II, was released in 2009. The album has multiple layers of complimentary styles and sounds. Cool jazz beats and licks, with the occasional flavoring of classical instruments, and a Seattle alternative rock sound, create a dark yet uplifting mood. Marrissa Lamparht, freelance music critic, writes, “this is an album that [is] unique and thought-provoking and progressive." Not enough room for entire BIO, please visit speechmachineband.com.
