Jiah, Bill, Warren, and Sasank have been playing music in the Philadelphia Indie Rock scene for the past decade. In 2019 the guys came together to write Dragons Used to Live Here and started playing shows frequently. Characterized by live instruments blended with samples, and an extensive use of resampling-based recording techniques, Spooky Forest's approach is to capture the elements of classic rock and rap they grew up with under a modern indie rock vibe. Blend that with an "anything goes" production style, that's in essence an extension of singer/guitarist Jiah's past making rap beats in the early 2000s in upstate NY, and it's almost impossible to categorize these guys. But maybe that's the point. Their style is focused on honesty, a passion for lyricism and low-end, and doing whatever the hell they want.
