Staples are a Brisbane-based alternative rock band, formed in late 2019 by high-school mates Harry, Jason and Edward, together with multi-instrumentalist Zaac and drummer Mikaela.
Having launched their debut EP “Another Melodramatic Mess” to a sold-out Black Bear Lodge in December of 2020, Staples returned to the studio in 2021, while also taking some time away from the live music scene to further refine their set-list and live show.
Now, after much anticipation during the extended silence, Staples are finally returning to the stage alongside the release of their new single “Optimist” and its accompanying energetic, colour-filled music video.
With soaring synths, passionate vocals and jangly guitars on top of vigorous basslines and thunderous drums, “Optimist” echoes Staples’ post-punk and indie rock influences and establishes their new, tighter, visceral and more focused sound. While showcasing the band’s collective musicianship and hook-writing abilities, the new single also hints at the intricate, introspective and immersive new direction of Staples’ forthcoming music.
