Starman Jr.

Starman Jr. is the recording project of Mississippi native, Adam Porter. Blending nostalgic home-spun folk with electric guitar, digital vocal effects and ambient keys, the songs transcend genre and time. They hark back to obscure 1960’s outsider musicians while incorporating modern rock and electronic acts with an earnest pulse.


When Porter moved to Oxford, MS he began writing music under several names and honed his home recording techniques eventually producing more than 10 albums that remained hidden - only to be heard by those who pried. After some encouragement from friends to bring his music out publically, Porter formed Starman Jr. as a live band and has since played shows with Snail Mail, Eleanor Friedberger, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Hovvdy, Hoops and more. He has remained prolific with his output since then, often writing and recording entire albums, including all instruments by himself, in a matter of weeks.


With a warm, close voice, often buried slightly with distortion and effects, the listener is led to discover and meditate on special everyday things often overlooked. Porter's quiet and introspective persona is realized fully and delivered with deep thought/consideration through Starman Jr. with his voice growing clearer and more affirmed with each release.
