The hazy, powerful, lo-fi world of Steakfry was the sole project of Ryan Costelloe (12/31/1998 - 4/7/2023).
Beginning at age 14, Costelloe wrote and recorded songs inspired by 60's psych and garage rock revival. True to the DIY ethic, he utilized the cheapest equipment he could come into possession of, set up a primitive home studio, and played every single instrument himself. Rounding out any recording limitations with a formidable guitar prowess, an effortless voice, and a generous amount of effects, he very quickly forged his own unique and uncompromising vision into reality, all from his bedroom.
The first official Steakfry album was released in 2017 while Costelloe was still in high school. The ensuing years saw his rise to prominence over internet platforms such as Soundcloud and the release of five more homemade records. Even despite suffering seizures and a diagnosis of Glioblastoma in November 2020, he underwent two surgeries for tumor removal and quickly returned to recording and released two more albums, and many individual recordings.
Ryan Costelloe passed away April 7th 2023, Good Friday, after a three year battle with brain cancer; he was 24.
