Steam Lizard is the songwriting alias of Steve Bonham, an independent artist from Fleetwood, Lancashire, UK. His musical journey began in the late 2000s, with early tracks featured on BBC Radio 1’s Dave Pearce Dance Anthems and BBC Introducing on BBC Radio Lancashire. In 2009, his music was selected for the Blackpool Glam Rocks art installation, blending electronic textures with visual storytelling.
In 2011, Steve co-founded Essbenci, a live synth-driven DJ duo that played some legendary UK venues like Gatecrasher Birmingham and Preston's 53 Degrees and collaborated with artists who now headline festivals worldwide. After stepping back to raise a young family, Steve returned with a fresh creative spark—releasing long-lost projects and writing new songs under the Steam Lizard name.
While his journey began in dance music, Steam Lizard is a multi-genre project—spanning everything from synth-pop and country to children’s music, jazz, and beyond. It’s not defined by a single style, but by a commitment to songwriting, storytelling, and finishing ideas that once sat dormant. Steam Lizard is a space for playful experimentation, emotional depth, and the joy of making music across genres.
