Steep Ascender

Steep Ascender is the lifelong progressive music project of multi-instrumentalist / songwriter Matthew Nelson Zimmerman. Matt started on piano at 4 years old, moved to studying drums at age 8, and then took up the bass at age 13. He taught himself to record and engineer music after being gifted a Fostex 4 track tape recorder at age 12, and went on to learn from several seasoned engineers and producers in various pro-studios in Tennessee and Maryland as he came of age, while also playing in alternative and melodic rock bands such as Mindwalk & No Divide.

He writes, performs, engineers, and mixes all the instruments and aspects of his own music, occasionally working with collaborators and guest musicians such as drummer Marco Minnemann (Steven Wilson, The Aristocrats, etc).

Steep Ascender is a time capsule, an Art-I-Fact of one man's 1st person account of his ever changing, ever evolving life story. An expression of the Universe itself, as seen through the subjective eyes of one single individual, who is at the same time utterly connected and part of the One Human family, in this One Universe of which we are all a part. After all, the word "Uni-Verse" means "One Song."
