Prolific percussionist and producer Steve Reid was a co-founding member of the enormously popular contemporary jazz group <a href="spotify:artist:6hjqP9annof75B2TNBE0rO">the Rippingtons</a>. Around the time of the group's 1987 formation, he joined <a href="spotify:artist:3JsMj0DEzyWc0VDlHuy9Bx">Supertramp</a> for a brief period and appeared on their Free as a Bird and Live 88 albums. Reid issued his solo debut, the worldbeat-influenced Bamboo Forest, in 1994. The follow-up, Water Sign, appeared two years later.
