stonefromthesky (a.k.a. SFTS) is an alias of Alex Zinchenko, an experimental music artist and composer based in Kyiv, Ukraine.
His debut EP Orbital was self-released in May 2014. It fused post-metal and stoner rock with IDM, glitch and breakbeat. The record was well-received by online press, and described by Arctic Drones magazine as "a mad piece of music, full of fume-soiled intensity" and "a great and accurate depiction of rage and hopelessness".
The Shift Remixed - a maxi-single that features the main title from stonefromthesky's score for the UnDungeon video game, as well as four remixes - was released in May 2017 on the British/Ukrainian label farfromthere rec.
His first full-length album Spirals came out in July 2018 on low five. It was more eclectic and diverse comparing to his previous work. The most prominent genres of this record are alternative, trip-hop, psychedelic, and progressive rock. It was described as “a slow burn, an aching, chronic album, expertly paced, unfurling implacably" by Arctic Drones magazine. New Fury Media wrote “from start to finish, ‘Spirals’ grips you and doesn’t let go with it’s deep, brooding atmosphere and fantastic musicianship".
Later in 2018, stonefromthesky released two new singles: a collaboration track with the Ukrainian electronic music producer dark lowe, and a remix for the US psych-pop duo Phantogram.
His most recent work Schema Theory came out in 2019.
