Formed in 2014 by Tom Vandaele (Urge for Blood, GOD), Benjamin Himpens, Ruben Dewilde, and Dries Herreman, Stonemule started as a hardcore/punk band, tearing up local stages in West Flanders. After bassist Dries left in 2015, Wannes Breyne joined, paving the way for dual vocals. By 2016, they took a break to reinvent their sound, returning in 2017 with a heavier, sludgier style. www.dumpmagazine.be described it as “Kyuss coated with sludge, sewing pitch-black riffs with precision and Mastodon-like vocal magic.”
Their 2018 debut EP, Dystopian State, crafted on a tight budget, became well received, fusing hardcore, stoner metal, and doom to critical acclaim. GBHBL called it “EP of the year,” while Merchants of Air praised its “sheer energy and hardcore-infused stoner metal.” Post-pandemic lineup changes led to a two-year hiatus.
In 2025, Stonemule is back with two new members, Jon Huyghe and Tom Schelfaut. We are ready and recharged to play electrifying shows, and release new music.
